Hailing from Scarborough, South Africa,Phil is the ideal skipper for Y Not, bringing a vast wealth of experience and sailing know-how to the cockpit after a glittering career at sea which spans luxury charter work, professional instruction and success at a range of international regattas.
Phil’s dedicated and patient approach to managing a yacht, along with his kind and professional manner allows him to not only be a leader on board, but also a guide and teacher. Phil is passionate about sailing and passing on his experience to guests and crew alike. He used to run a sail training vessel that catered for children between the ages of 13 -18 yrs, which makes joining him and his team aboard Y Not a rewarding and exciting experience.
Not only a keen and talented sailor; Captain Phil boasts a good degree of engineering and boat maintenance ability, an aptitude for watersports and fishing, a good sense of humour and an extremely approachable and easy-going manner.

Mate/Stew Anna Bird:
Anna grew up on the beautiful Devonshire coast of England and has not strayed far from the water since. Most recently she spent six years as Chief Stewardess on two yachts with a thirst for adventure. Firstly a charter yacht spanning the Caribbean, North America and Europe. Then an expedition vessel exploring the Arctic, Antarctic and many interesting places in between, before returning to the glittering Caribbean. Anna has enjoyed an extensive career within hospitality and travel ranging from managing a safari camp in the Zambian bush, to managing intimate and extravagant events on and off-shore. She enjoys watching wildlife, taking photos, snorkeling, wakeboarding and finding beautiful places to go for a swim. Anna is an RYA Yachtmaster trained Coastal Skipper, PADI Open water diver and holds extensive first AID and medical training.
CHEF Jo Watts
Jo grew up in Dartmouth Devon England and studied cooking as a hobby while working in sales and marketing.
Jo's love of cooking on boats began when she first cooked for friends onboard a Perini sailing yacht in Italy. Discovering a life traveling and cooking onboard was her new intended career, since then Jo has cooked on all types of yachts, large and small, motor and sail, including living on a classic sailing yacht in Antigua.
Jo has recently completed an expedition trip taking 3 years to circumnavigate the Americas, the Baltic and the Black Sea.
Jo's culinary aim is serving flavoursome balanced dishes using local fresh ingredients.
Jo also enjoys the gym, hiking, skiing and horse riding but her favourite pass time is eating out in a top end restaurant with fine food and great wine joined by friends and family!
